You're warmly invited to the exhibition opening of
Woven: An Arcadian Impression by Christopher Duncan
presented by TÜR and An Astute Assembly.

Christopher Duncan is a hand weaver and founding member of TÜR who was the 2018 recipient of Dame Doreen's Gift from the Blumhardt Foundation. Duncan has recently relocated his studio to the banks of the Mahurangi River outside Warkworth. His latest body of work reflects this arcadian impression and explores the solutions of craft in coalition with nature, the world without work and the revisiting of adolescent literature. Through hand-weaving Duncan discusses the capitalist working model and our inevitable divorce from it, he sites that the textile crafts were the first of many to be thrown under the bus by automation during 1700s England’s industrial revolution, and that craft may yet be our way out. Whilst grasping this he engages eastern philosophy to help explain our warped sense of reality.

Join us on the 4th of October Thursday from 6pm to view the work ~
